The largest city park is located 1 block north of Hwy 14 on 3rd Street and Harvey Dunn Ave Along with two picnic shelters and a sand volleyball court, Washington Park boasts a large garden of annual and perennial flowers. Completed in 1985, the bridge and landscaped area was a memorial project. In 2002, many fundraisers and generous donations helped to purchase the new playground equipment.
Washington Park amenities include RV and tent camping facilities, water, electricity, bathhouse with warm water showers, lots of shade trees, and horseshoe pits.

Located two blocks west of Hwy 25 in northern De Smet, Rose Vincent Memorial Park hosts a new half-court basketball court, playground equipment and various perennial and annual flowers. This park was officially dedicated in 1993 and remains a peaceful place for picnicking and playing. New playground equipment was installed in 2014 with City and private donations.

The 4-H Park is conveniently located across the street from the start of the Laura Ingalls Wilder tour. It is also adjacent to the Kingsbury County Fairgrounds.
This small city park has a picnic shelter and new playground equipment. The building located on the grounds is available for family get-togethers and social events.

Open June to mid- August weather permitting with afternoon and evening sessions, 1pm - 4:45pm and 7pm - 8:45pm. Staffed by Red Cross certified lifeguards. Two sessions of swimming lessons are offered each summer by Red Cross certified instructors. The pool is 3ft to 12ft with two diving boards; a separate kiddie pool is also available. Limited concessions available. Daily admission or family passes available.

This outdoor basketball court is located at the intersection of Hwy 14 and Ingalls Ave.

Located eight miles southeast of De Smet, Lake Thompson is South Dakota’s largest natural lake. This 14,000-acre lake is filled with Northern Pike, Walleye, Perch and Crappies. Bird watching is also a popular pastime at Lake Thompson. Many enthusiasts have spotted Sanderling, Ruddy Turnstone, Marbled and Hudsonian Godwits, Wilson’s Phalarope, waterfowl, shorebirds in migration and Ross’ Geese with huge flocks of Snow Geese.
Lake Thompson State Park offers 103 campsites, four cabins and a five-bedroom group rental lodge perfect for hunters, fisherman or reunions. A playground, beach, boat dock, two comfort stations, dump station and fish cleaning station is also available.
