Artists from many states, as well as the local area, will gather in De Smet August 11 – 14 for the very popular, festive, annual Harvey Dunn Plein Air ‘Paint-Out’. This spectacular weekend of artistry continues its 14th year as the longest running Plein Air in South Dakota. Ingalls Homestead is the base for the event. The public can take advantage of seeing and purchasing the tremendous artwork created over the weekend at the Artist’s Sale that will be held at the De Smet Event Center on Sunday, August 14 from 10 to 2.
Registration takes place Thursday through Saturday at the Ingalls Homestead. There is something for everyone who enjoys art as all artists and spectators are invited to enjoy this free event and watch the artists as they have their easels set up around the area. Visit with the artists as they paint and at the artist’s reception at Harvey Dunn School and Hazel Meyer Library located on De Smet’s Main Street on Friday evening, 5 – 7 PM. Workshops, free to all, take place Friday: 10 AM, Charlene Fleming demonstrating watercolor/pastel and Saturday: 10 AM, Steve Randall, oil painting demo, and 1 PM, Youth Workshop, with Joy Halling.
On Sunday, during the Art Show & Sale, $200 cash prizes will be given for Artists' Choice and People's Choice awards, sponsored by De Smet Farm Mutual Insurance and American Bank & Trust. Concessions are available.
